OPCYC'S Pointers Operations Guide was last fully reviewed and republished in 2021, received April 14, 2022 from Past Commodore JD Hay, with a few minor changes since then. It begins with an INTRODUCTION as follows:
The Pointer Operating Guide (POG) provides a general operating guidance for the Old Point Comfort Yacht Club (OPCYC). the POG is not law, a substitute for common sense, or even doctrine. Rather, it represents a simple compendium of some of the operative ways our club does business at this point in time and will certainly mature over time. Changes and additions to the POG are welcome and expected.
The POG is divided into eight parts, which state the mission of the club, and the manner in which the officers plan, review, execute, measure and pay for the on-water and social events.
OPCYC Burgee 1950s & Fort Monroe Army 1926 -1960s

In 1926 Fort Monroe was becoming a
significant installation with additional activities
the post provided meeting places for social and
civic engagement.
In the 1930s Fort Monroe was a coastal
fortification experiencing significant development and rehabilitation efforts funded by the Public Works Administration. This included the relocation of the Coastal Artillery School and construction of the seawall, continuing as a training post and headquarters for the Army Ground Command (TRADOC).
During the 1940s the Fort played a vital role in defending the Chesapeake Bay during WWII, along with building other amenities for the inhabitants, and workforce, the Old Point Comfort Marina was built.
The Fort’s continued hosting of the Cold War antiaircraft (CONARC) defenses in the
1950s and became a strategic military installation in Hampton Roads, Virginia. With the influx of people at Fort Monroe and the surrounding activities, it was only natural to see more activity in the marina. As boats owners found slips at the marina, a community of fishermen, sailors, and cruisers grew, too.
In 1958 there was a hand-full of organizers, who were mostly fishing enthusiast organizing the Old Point Comfort Yacht Club, as Jerry & Mable Gordon were extensively cruising the American Great Loop 1958-1959.
A monthly Old Point Log newsletter began to be published in 1960.
In 1976 the 1st Tri-Service Cup race was run.
In 1980 when Robert Williamson became
OPCYC first Historian, he received a two
large binders, mountains of photos, and a
cardboard box of old copies of the
Helmsman from the 1980s.
